(1451 A.D - 1506 A.D) Christopher Columbus was born on October 31, 1451 in northwestern Italy. In 1473 Columbus started an apprenticeship for a well known company in which he has the opportunities to sail around Europe and the West Coast of Africa. He was a smart man studying and learning the languages of Latin, Portuguese, and Spanish. He also read about the subjects of astronomy, geography, and history.
Q: How did you get funding for your voyage?
A: I first applied to John II, King of Portugal in 1485 but he eventually rejected it and I tried again in 1488 and he rejected it again but on May1st 1486 he tried Queen Isabella of Spain and she said yes.
Q: When did you leave Spain to start your first voyage?
A: We left from the port of Palos in southern Spain on August 3, 1492.
Q:When did you reach land?
A: We reached land oh October 12, 1492 landing in what is know known as San Salvador.. And the natives that were on the island were peaceful and friendly.
Q: What other islands did you explore on that voyage?
A: We explored the northern shores of Cuba and Hispaniola and my last stop is what I call the bay of arrows in what is now known as the bay of arrows because that is what we were met by.
Q:When did you return to Spain?
A: I finally returned to Spain on March 15, 1493.
Q: How did this effect the future?
A: I discovered a new land mass for people to go to.
